Hard for me to believe, but it’s been almost 2 years since I left QVC as a program host.
25 years, 6 months, and 11 days. That’s how much time I spent with the QVC audience sharing products from just about every category you can think of.
But more than that, over the course of those many years, I shared my life…the joys of my marriage and becoming a mom. The sadness of suffering a miscarriage and losing my Dad to pancreatic cancer. The fun of cooking up new recipes and decorating homes, and the ache that comes with losing a beloved pet.
It’s a rather intimate relationship. Unlike watching a television show with an actor who you might really like but you never get to know, when you spend time shopping with a QVC host, you end up learning quite a it about him/her.
I was never hesitant about sharing my life with the QVC customers. There were boundaries, but frankly, I always considered it an honor that the viewers would allow me into their home (through the television) to spend time together.
I enjoy reading social media comments and because I have always been engaged on my platforms, I feel like I’ve had the chance to get to know many of my followers. Kind of strange, isnt it?
That’s why I love sharing with everyone! It creates a fun connection.
Life After QVC
When I left QVC, I wasn’t really sure what the future would hold. Of course, the idea of returning as a guest was always a possibility.
And, I was very fortunate to have built up wonderful relationships with the various vendors and had quite a few opportunities to return as a guest.
But, I said no.
Maybe it was timing. Maybe it required too much of a time commitment. Maybe the brand just wasn’t aligned with the brand I was trying to build. Maybe it was been there, done that. Maybe it just had too many things that made me think twice.
But one of those “hey, I’d love to talk to you” calls was from Drew Scott.
Just 3 weeks after I left QVC.
When The Property Brothers Call…
I loved working with Drew and Jonathan Scott. I like nice people. I like smart, savvy and creative people. That pretty much sums them up!
I was flattered by Drew’s call. He wanted to know my plans (um, I have no idea), what I thought I might like to do (um, I have no idea) and would I be interested in maybe talking about working together (um, yes, but I have no idea what that might look like!)
We started down a path with the executive team, but timing was what it was, and I don’t think I was ready for this conversation. And I’m not sure the timing was right for the Scott Living team either. So nothing happened.
And then I landed my first segment on the TODAY show with Hoda and Jenna and that took my career in a completely different direction than I ever imagined.
But Drew Scott kept checking in.
I’d get a text commenting on a Today show appearance or a quick email or message.
A Year In The Making
In the spring of 2020, I received a phone call from Drew that really started the brand ambassador journey in motion.
Jonathan and Drew love QVC, but finding the time and flexibility to be on air frequently is really difficult with all of their other commitments.
That’s where I come in! Yes, the brothers will still be appearing on air. But by bringing me aboard, I can help to lighten their load.
In addition, I’m thrilled to begin working with their design teams to help develop products to grow their business. It allows me to use the side of my brain that has missed that kind of creativity! I love product development!!
It took just about a year for everything to come together, but I truly couldn’t be more excited about being part of the Scott Living team.
I believe in what Drew and Jonathan have built. I admire their work ethic. I like their products. I BUY their products. Those are all things that were really important to me in deciding to work with a brand and returning to QVC.
Returning to QVC.
I wasn’t sure if that was going to be in the cards. But I’m a huge believer that things work out exactly how they’re supposed to and I’m delighted to be returning to my old stomping, er, shopping grounds!
It will be fun to talk products again (I’ve always been such a shopper!) and to see my former colleagues. I hope they think I’m a good guest!
And of course, it will be fun to reconnect with so many of the customers who watch QVC. I’m looking forward to sharing again with all of you.
I guess Dorothy was right. There’s no place like home.
See you all day Sunday!
xo,
Jill
