I am my father’s daughter. Yes, we do look a lot alike, but it goes far deeper than that for me. He has helped to mold me into who I am today and he continues to help me grow into the person I want to be.
My Dad has given me one of the greatest gifts anyone could ask for — belief in myself.
Two Families
As some of you know, I have two families. I wouldn’t change it for the world, but I know that only seeing me half of the time must have been hard on my Dad.
With that said, I think it helped him become the father that he is today.
Raising me was never a question that crossed my Dad’s mind. According to him, there is no greater thing in life than being present with your children.
He never faltered and never missed a game, recital or musical. In fact, more often than not he was the one volunteering to be the team coach or field trip parent.
Family Time Happy Father’s Day
My family has always spent a lot of time together.
That’s especially true during the summer when we’re out at the baseball field for hundreds of hours. But as a sports family that likes to watch everything from Little League to NFL football, we never complain.
I love going to big sports games with my Dad. He approaches each one with techniques and strategies in mind. I find that kind of perspective fascinating.
One of my favorite events to attend with my family is a Philadelphia Eagles game. The energy in the stadium is unlike anything else—you can actually feel the vibrations of the crowd’s chants in your bones.
My Dad has been an Eagles fan his entire life and undoubtedly passed that passion on to me and Trevor.
Not only does it give us a chance to cheer on our home team, but it also gives us an opportunity to be present with one another.
I still remember this time last year. My Dad, Trevor and I all went out at 5:30 in the morning to see the sunrise on the boat. We were out there for a couple of hours.
What’s neat is that none of us planned to watch the sunrise together. But when we woke up, we all had that plan in mind. My dad was having a hard time falling back asleep, so he decided to wake both of us up.
(In case you were wondering, Mommy Jill was so sound asleep, he didn’t want to wake her!)
Funny enough, Trevor and I were already awake and our feet to see if he wanted to go out for a morning ride.
Life Lessons
My Dad is a man of character. Anyone who knows my father can say that he always keeps his word.
I admire his outlook on life, I trust his judgment and I value his opinions.
He has taught me how to be a good person. How to be thoughtful, kind, steadfast, loyal and tough. He has taught me the value of integrity and of being truthful.
I don’t know if I have ever told him, but he taught me possibly the greatest life lesson: to not give up when it gets hard. It can be tempting to take the easy way out.
My Dad is not the kind of person to sit around waiting for things to happen.
Whether it is a rainy afternoon or a stressful day at work, he’s always prepared to make the most of what he has. At the end of the day, he’s able to look at himself in the mirror and know that he did his absolute best.
The fact that I have been able to learn this incredible lesson at such a young age gives credit to what a great parent and man he is.
Happy Father’s Day, Dad
Quite honestly, there is not enough time in the day or enough words in the English language to truly convey how grateful I am to have him in my life.
So, I will leave it off with this: I love you, Dad.
Happy Father’s Day.
xo,
Kylie
