3-ingredient recipes have a special place in my heart. And that’s why this easy black forest dump cake does too.

Dump cakes don’t always look the prettiest on a plate, but they’re often some of the most delicious desserts. When you combine no-frills ingredients that already taste great on their own, you can’t go wrong with enjoying them together!

Easy Black Forest Dump Cake Main Cake

This easy black forest dump cake brings together gooey chocolate cake with the subtly tart (but perfectly sweet) taste of cherries. A winner whether you’re bringing it to book club, prepping it for a spring picnic, or enjoying the cake with your family throughout the week!

And if you forget the recipe when you head to the store to gather the ingredients, don’t fret. All you have to remember is devil’s food cake mix, cherry pie filling, and butter… you’ll be good to go!

Here’s how it will all come together.

With a combo of gooey chocolate cake and sweet cherry pie filling, you can't go wrong with this simple but rich dessert!

Ingredients

  • 1 15.25-ounce box of devil's food cake mix (I used Betty Crocker)
  • 2 21-ounce cans of cherry pie filling
  • 1/2 cup (8 tablespoons) butter melted

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Spray a 9x13 casserole dish with nonstick cooking spray.
  3. Empty the 2 cans of cherry pie filling into the bottom of the casserole dish and spread it out evenly.
  4. In a medium mixing bowl, combine dry cake mix and melted butter, and stir until it becomes crumbly.
  5. Pour the cake crumble mixture over the cherries, then spread it out evenly over the top.
  6. Bake the dump cake for 30 minutes or until the edges are hot and bubbly.
  7. Serve it with whipped cream or ice cream!

Notes

Do not prep the cake ahead of time. Simply combine the dry cake mix with the melted butter!

My recommendation is to enjoy this dump cake warm and with a scoop of ice cream on top. The combo of flavors, temps, and textures is such a treat.

If you love this dessert then I have good news for you. Because it isn’t the only dump cake recipe in my collection!

Whatever one you decide to make (or if you make all three… I’m not judging!) I hope you enjoy every last bite 🙂
