The inspiration for this recipe comes from the various types of dessert hummus I see at the grocery store. I’m intrigued by all of the “cookie” flavors!

I already had a good basic hummus recipe and thought I’d give my own version of a “cookie” flavor a try. But which cookie? Hmmm….

At first, something like a sugar cookie taste seemed to be the easiest place to start, and then I remembered the cinnamon sugar goodness of my Mom’s Snickerdoodle recipe. Well, that settled that! Snickerdoodle Dessert Hummus, I’m coming for you!

I tweaked this recipe about 5 times before deciding it was just right. You’ll notice, no tahini in this recipe. I used cashew butter instead and I love the buttery richness it gives the hummus.

This recipe was created using my Vitamix, but a food processor will be just fine too.

Serve this with apple and banana slices, but spiced wafers, graham crackers and vanilla wafers are all excellent “dippers”.

Snickerdoodle Hummus

Snickerdoodle Hummus

The inspiration for this recipe comes from the various types of dessert hummus I see at the grocery store. I’m intrigued by all of the “cookie” flavors! I already had a good basic hummus recipe and thought I’d give my own version of a “cookie” flavor a try. But which cookie?

Ingredients

  • 1 (15 oz) can garbanzo beans (chickpeas) drained and rinsed well
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup
  • 2 tbsp cashew butter
  • 1 & 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp cream of tartar (don’t omit! it’s the secret tang of a true snickerdoodle!)
  • 2 tsp almond milk (I use a brand slightly sweetened with honey, but you can use unsweetened…may need to add a bit extra maple syrup if you want a tad sweeter)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/8 tsp salt

Instructions

    1. Place ingredients in Vitamix and blend until smooth. You will need to use the tamper to keep hummus moving and blending.

We are definitely a “dip” family, so while this is a dessert hummus dip, in our family, it’s also a “snack” dip and a “because it’s there” dip too!
